R\u00e9mi Sarmini is a Syrian theatre director, actor, educator and founder of the theatre collective Tajroubeh<\/em><\/a>Troupe<\/em><\/a>. Has been awarded an IIE\u2010Artist Protection Fund<\/a> Fellowship and holds a residence at Art Veda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R\u00e9mi wrote and directed the play \u201cFirst Class<\/em>\u201d,<\/a>[1]<\/a>  which premiered in 2019 in Tunisia and is based on his own experiences. It circles around three people waiting at an airport to travel to a safe country, and explores social and global topics, such as boundaries and discrimination, and the emotional state of waiting. Of his artistic practice,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarmini was working on a new theatre project called \u201cR\u00e9mi without family\u201d<\/em> during his residency at AR-Tunis. Based on the French novel Sans Famille <\/em>written by Hector Malot in 1878, this semi-autobiographical play told the story of a boy named R\u00e9mi who has grown up without his family and travelled from country to country searching for them. This Play is produced by Al Mawred Al Thaqafi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
